Stakeholder Forum on Energy Transition Minerals in the DRC

From December 3 to 5, 2024, Resource Matters teamed up with the DRC Ministry of Mines to organize a high-level Stakeholder Forum on Energy Transition Minerals (Horizon 2050) in Kinshasa.

National strategy

This key event brought together leaders, experts, and civil society representatives to discuss the main pillars of a national strategy aimed at positioning the DRC in response to the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.

Ahead of the forum, initial discussions took place during the Alternative Mining Indaba in Kolwezi in October 2024. High-level interviews were conducted with senior officials from the mining administration. Additionally, an analysis of strategies from countries such as Chile, Indonesia, Australia, and Ghana helped enrich the discussions.

Next steps

The debates and contributions will feed into a participatory White Paper, which will serve as a guide for the DRC government to finalize a coherent governance strategy for energy transition minerals.
