Side event EU Raw Materials Week 2025 : Following the money

During EU Raw Materials Week 2025 in Brussels, Resource Matters moderated a panel organized by Oxfam Novib, Fair Finance International, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and 11.11.11 titled “Following the Money: Human Rights, Finance and Accountability in the Raw Materials Race.”

The session examined the role of banks and investors in financing critical minerals and assessed whether existing policies and EU regulations ensure responsible mining. Discussions focused on gaps in due diligence, the impacts of mining on local communities in countries such as the DRC and Peru, and the need for stronger accountability frameworks within the financial sector.
