OECD Side Event 2025 : Understanding the Impact of Congo’s New Cobalt Regulations

At a side event organized at the OECD, Resource Matters and the Cobalt Institute hosted a roundtable to examine the impact of the early 2025 Congolese reforms in the cobalt sector on extraction conditions, trade, and the governance of this strategic mineral.

Participants also discussed the practical implementation of these standards on the ground, as well as the potential of the export suspension as a lever to stabilize the market and promote local value addition.

Through moderated and interactive dialogues, the session provided a candid assessment of the ambitions and limitations of the current measures, while highlighting priority actions to be pursued.
