Podcast - Qui perd, qui gagne ? Ep. 14 : “Damage caused by mining companies' pollution”
The Katanga region faces recurring cases of pollution attributed to mining companies. Among the companies cited is Congo Dongfang Mining (CDM), which is believed to be responsible for the pollution that occurred on November 4 in the Kassapa, Kamatete, and Kamisepe neighborhoods of Lubumbashi. A retention basin containing polluted water and acid ruptured, affecting not only local residents but also roads, plots of land, and markets. Despite a three-month suspension of operations, the issue of compensation and repair of the damage remains unresolved. The same is true for other cities in the country, including Kolwezi, which is also facing similar issues.
The details and challenges are explored in this new episode of our podcast, which examines who loses, who gains, and who truly benefits from the DRC’s mineral resources. It is brought to you by Actualité.cd in collaboration with Resource Matters.
