CNPAV letter to DRC President : Investigation and measures needed re Dan Gertler network
This letter from the civil society coalition “Congo N’est pas à Vendre” details the various allegations made by the U.S. Treasury Department against businessman Dan Gertler and his affiliated companies operating in the DRC, and goes on to call for precautionary measures to be taken against this network, which, according to the document, has carried out several transactions that have only harmed the Congolese state’s finances and its good governance.
The note states that, according to the Africa Progress Panel report, Mr. Gertler was sanctioned for having “amassed his fortune through opaque and corrupt mining and oil transactions,” causing the Congo to lose up to $1.4 billion between 2010 and 2012.
