Podcast - Qui perd, qui gagne ? Ep. 5 : “ DRC vs Apple ”
Last December, the Democratic Republic of the Congo filed a complaint against subsidiaries of the multinational Apple in France and Belgium for aiding and abetting war crimes, money laundering, and consumer fraud.
Lawyers for the DRC accuse Apple of using conflict minerals in its products that were illegally mined in eastern DRC and of misleading consumers by claiming that this is not the case.
This illegal mining is estimated to cost the country more than $800,000 per month in revenue that armed groups, particularly the M23, would otherwise collect in taxes on production and transportation.
In this new episode of the podcast “Qui perd, qui gagne?”, ACTUALITÉ.CD, in partnership with Resource Matters, will examine the issues in the supply chain for so-called 3T minerals that form the basis of the Congolese government’s complaints against Apple.
