Resource Matters is canceling its participation in DRC Mining Week 2026 (PDF)

It is with sincere regret that Resource Matters announces that it will not participate in the 2026 edition of DRC Mining Week, a key event for the Congolese and African mining sectors.

This decision, reached after extensive internal deliberation, is driven by the current public health situation related to the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Although no cases have been reported in Lubumbashi, Resource Matters has chosen to apply the precautionary principle in order to protect the health and safety of its employees and partners.

Resource Matters has been eagerly preparing to participate in this important annual gathering of the Congolese mining sector and the broader global energy transition community.

Its team was looking forward to continuing discussions with government representatives on the development of a national strategy for strategic minerals and opportunities for local value addition and processing. Resource Matters had also planned to present its mapping of the cobalt supply chain to Congolese mineral buyers to encourage them to strengthen their due diligence practices.

In addition, Resource Matters was prepared to engage in substantive discussions with investors on addressing Congo’s energy deficit and advancing sustainable electrification solutions. Its team intended to support civil society’s urgent call to end sulfur dioxide (SO₂) pollution at the TFM mine site, a matter of significant public health and environmental concern.

Nevertheless, Resource Matters believes that no professional opportunity, regardless of its importance, should take precedence over the protection of life and health. Accordingly, Resource Matters has chosen to minimize any risk, however small, of contributing to the spread of the epidemic. Resource Matters sincerely thanks the organizers of the DRC Mining Week for their understanding and cooperation.

Although unable to attend in person, Resource Matters will continue to follow the discussions remotely and will remain engaged with its partners. In doing so, it reaffirms its commitment to promoting an ethical and transparent mining sector that contributes to sustainable development in the Democratic Republic of Congo, supports the well-being of its people, and advances a just and equitable global energy transition.
