For more than 20 years, civil society has denounced businessman Dan Gertler’s activities in the Congolese mining sector, accusing him of corruption. In an arbitration case in Israel concluded in 2024, he himself revealed, for the first time in his own words, that he had made payments to a close advisor to former President Joseph Kabila.

This issue of our podcast, “Qui perd, qui gagne, and Who Really Profits from Congo’s Mineral Resources,” explores this very question. We’ll also discuss the key, yet controversial, role Dan Gertler has played in Congo’s extractive sector for several decades, as well as financial consequences of his activities for the Congolese state.
