Podcast - Qui perd, qui gagne ? Ep. 9: "Energy deficit and its consequences"
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is rich in mineral resources. Copper, cobalt, gold… These strategic minerals are at the heart of global energy transition. Unfortunately, local processing of these resources is lagging behind. DRC lacks the essential element: reliable, accessible, and sufficient energy to process its minerals and boost community development.
In the mining sector, the need is estimated at nearly 1,000 megawatts compared to what national electricity company is able to supply. This generated energy is prioritized for mining companies, but even for the companies themselves, it remains unreliable and insufficient for production.
How can we understand this energy deficit in the DRC, and what needs to be done to address these challenges? Find out more in this new podcast from Actualité.cd, produced in collaboration with Resource Matters.
